The Best 7 Day Sugar Detox Diet
Sugar Detox Diet Food List [What to Avoid]

During a 7 day sugar detox diet, there are foods that need to be removed for the week in order to help reset sugar cravings and kickstart your weight loss and wellness journey.
Not all sugars need to be eliminated during the next seven days. For example, sugars naturally found in foods like milk, unsweetened yogurt and whole fruit have a minimal impact on blood sugar and therefore don't need to be removed to see results.
Instead, it's important to remove foods that either contain added sugar and/or are high glycemic load.
Both added sugar and high glycemic load carbs have a similar effect on the body and therefore need to be removed during the seven day sugar detox.
Above is a list of all the foods to avoid during the next seven days.
My top tips for avoiding sugar during the sugar detox:
Check ingredient labels: If an ingredient ends in the word "syrup" or if the word ends with the letters "-ose" then it's something you want to remove. For example, "dextrose" is a common sweetener to avoid. However, there are a lot of different processed sugars. You can nearly always spot them by looking for the letters "-ose". On that same note, anything that ends in the word "syrup" is a sign of a processed added sugar. This includes foods like brown rice syrup and barley malt syrup. You'll be able to find all of these in the ingredients section of a packaged food.
Check the nutrition facts panel: This is where you'll find information like carbs, protein and fat. But in addition to that you can find both "sugar" and "added sugar". As a good rule of thumb, don't eat anything that has more than 0 grams of "added sugar". If a food contains "sugar", that's not necessarily a problem, as this lists natural sugars found in foods like milk and yogurt. The two major exceptions are fruit juice and dried fruit, which both technically don't contain added sugar, but should be removed during the sugar detox week.
Sugar Detox Food List [What To Eat]

It's equally as important to consider what to eat when you're removing added sugar. Thankfully there are a lot of tasty and filling food options to load your plate up with during the next seven days!
The goal is to have three meals per day during the 7 day sugar detox diet. Each meal should have a balance of protein, veggies and/or fruit and high quality fats.
This combination helps to reduce sugar cravings while also helping the body burn fat as fuel.

My top sugar detox tips:
Eat protein at every meal: Protein helps to shut off sugar cravings which makes your 7 day sugar detox diet a lot easier. I like to aim for at least 30 grams of complete protein at every meal. As a general rule of thumb, this looks like 4-5 ounces of cooked protein at each meal.
Eat 3 large meals a day: Don't try and reduce your intake during the sugar detox! If weight loss is your goal, you can naturally start to tap into fat burning simply by following the sugar detox protocols without having to consciously reduce your intake. Eating too little can spike sugar cravings, so it's crucial to eat enough. If you need more step-by-step, meal-by-meal guidance, I highly recommend checking out our 7 Day Detox Program with simple recipes using the recommended ingredients above.
Drink plenty of water: It's easy to get dehydrated when you remove added sugar. Aim for at least half your body weight in ounces every day. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you would aim for 75 ounces of water.
Use zero sugar marinades and dressings: You can either make your own or use pre-made options from the grocery store. I like the brand Primal Kitchens for great zero added sugar marinades and salad dressings.
Drink mint tea after dinner: Mint tea is a natural appetite suppressant. Make a simple mint tea by adding hot water to a mug with a handful of fresh mint. Let this sit for 5 minutes, then enjoy!
