Did you know that I was actually vegetarian for the first 10 years of my life and vegan for 6 months in college? I didn't eat meat until I was well into my teens. When I was very young, my parents decided to switch to a plant-based diet, so veggies were all I knew for a long time. For that reason, I tend to eat on the more plant-based side because that's what I know. (Also because I think cooking with plants is SO MUCH EASIER - and so much less CLEANING! I still enjoy high quality, grass-fed meat on the occasion. And I love cheese. OMG do I love cheese... what were we talking about again?).
I get a lot of plant-based AENpeeps who are following The Complete Intermittent Fasting Bundle Protocols and want to get the benefits of Keto Coffee without using grass-fed butter. And guess what? It's actually super simple to make Keto Coffee vegan.*
*If you are vegan and curious about The Complete Intermittent Fasting Bundle ~ the majority of recipes are plant-based. The ones that are not plant-based provide a simple swap to make it vegan!
To make Keto Coffee vegan while still receiving the fat burning and gut healing benefits, you have two options:
1. Swap the grass-fed butter for raw cacao butter.
Cacao butter contains different types of fat than grass-fed butter. Unfortunately, you won't find a rich source of anti-inflammatory butyric acid in sources other than dairy produces, but cacao butter has its benefits. Cacao butter is sourced from the cacao bean (like the cacao nibs that I'm always topping my smoothies with!). Although poor in butyric acid, cacao butter is a rich source of oleic acid (the same fat in olives and olive oil that has been traced back to a multitude of heart health benefits). I personally don't use cacao butter, but plant-based AENpeeps swear by the creamy nature of cacao butter in their Keto Coffee!
To use cacao butter, just swap equal parts of the grass-fed butter out for the cacao butter. Use the recipe in the video below!
THIS is a great cacao butter option.
2. Remove the butter all together and just use unrefined coconut oil.
If you use this method, make sure that you still blend your coffee. Trust me, you do NOT want to drink a coffee that has a layer of coconut oil on top. It doesn't taste/feel good. When you blend the oil in, it also allows the caffeine to become emulsified in the fat which helps to provide a stable release of the caffeine into your system.
