Does LMNT Break a Fast? [Intermittent Fasting Tips]

If you’re following an Intermittent Fasting protocol, like with the Complete Intermittent Fasting Bundle, then you’re likely aware of how important it is to replace your electrolytes. And although you can certainly use Celtic Sea Salt or other high quality salts to get your electrolytes in, many people prefer a flavored option, such as LMNT.

But will LMNT break your fast? Today, we’re diving into those details.

Does LMNT Break a Fast?

Whether or not LMNT breaks a fast depends on which LMNT you’re choosing. I personally use LMNT on a daily basis because I like their flavored and unflavored options. I’m also a fan of the convenience factor of LMNT for getting the sodium, magnesium and potassium needed to help balance my electrolyte levels all in one package.

Pssst – want to test out LMNT during your fast? You can find it HERE.

Let’s first talk about their unflavored option. The unflavored LMNT only contains the minerals themselves. It doesn’t contain any flavoring, so it doesn’t have any grams of carbs, protein or fat. Because of this, regardless of what type of Intermittent Fasting you’re using, the raw unflavored LMNT will not break a fast. This is the LMNT that I have during my fasting window, typically after a hard workout.

Now when we take a look at their various flavored options, we have a bit of a different answer. Each flavor has a different number of grams of carbohydrates. The grams of carbohydrates are likely coming from the flavoring. Even though LMNT does not contain any sugar, it’s common to see flavoring dehydrated onto some type of carbohydrate carrier. The carbohydrate carrier can vary, but either way there’s likely some carbs in each flavoring.

I personally follow the “one gram rule”. This means any more than one gram of carbs and/or protein will break a fast. (You can learn more about this rule in the Complete Intermittent Fasting Bundle.) With this in mind, some of the flavorings definitely will break a fast, whereas others won’t.

The 21 Day Intermittent Fasting Program

The 21 Day Intermittent Fasting Program provides step-by-step strategies to help you use Intermittent Fasting with delicious, protein-packed meals to support fat loss, reduce hunger, and boost gut health.

For example, the Mango Chili flavor comes in at less than one gram of carbs as per the nutrition facts label. So with this flavor, you’re in the clear. However, the Lemon Habanero flavor has around 2 grams of carbs, so this could have the potential to break a fast.

To stay on the safe side, I usually opt for having the unflavored option during a fast and the flavored options during the eating window. But you can play around with the flavors that have less than one gram of carbohydrates during your fast to see if it works for you.
